Welcome
Dogs of Puerto Angel is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in the United States with 100% of funds used to sterilize and help stray dogs and cats in and around Puerto Angel, Mexico.
Hi, I’m Claudia Mamet. I’m originally from South Africa, but I live in Puerto Angel, Mexico where I teach at a local university and help dogs and cats in need. I have been involved in animal rescue most of my life. When I moved to Mexico in November 2019, I realized instantly that there is an overpopulation of stray animals here who struggle to survive and suffer tremendously. I can’t turn my back on these animals which is why I have established Dogs of Puerto Angel.
I spend several hours each day feeding the stray dogs in and around Puerto Angel. I also have them sterilized, vaccinated, and de-wormed at the local vet. I then try to find homes for the ones who are highly adoptable. With the support of my local vet and other animal rescuers, my primary goal is to raise funds to offer free, large-scale spay/neuter campaigns to the local communities around Puerto Angel that can’t afford to have their pets sterilized. I also raise funds to keep the 20 to 30 street dogs currently in my care healthy.
“Everyone in life has a calling, and my calling is to spend my life helping dogs and cats in need.“
Spay / Neuter Campaigns in 2023
As of May 2023, we’ve had over 600 animals sterilized this year through our spay / neuter campaigns and local vet visits.
Although we try not to organize campaigns during the hurricane season – May to October – we still take stray cats and dogs to be sterilized weekly at the local vet.
The vets charge us 300 pesos / 15 USD to sterilize one animal. I hope that this year, we can reach our goal of sterilizing over 1000 animals in the region.
Please consider sponsoring one spay or neuter surgery. This will help us prevent hundreds (if not thousands) of animals from being born into a life of suffering on the streets of Mexico.
Thank you for your support.

In fact, we help animals all along the coast from Puerto Escondido in the north to Huatulco in the south and inland to Pochutla. Dogs of Puerto Angel is located in Oaxaca which is the poorest province in Mexico. There is currently an overpopulation of stray animals in the area who suffer from malnutrition, disease, injury, and abuse…
