Welcome to Dogs of Puerto Angel
Hi, I’m Claudia Mamet. Originally from South Africa, I now live in Puerto Angel, Mexico, where I teach at a local university and dedicate my free time as a volunteer to helping dogs and cats in need. I’ve been involved in animal rescue in one way or another for most of my life. When I moved to Mexico in November 2019, I was immediately struck by the overwhelming number of stray animals struggling to survive. I couldn’t turn my back on them—so I founded Dogs of Puerto Angel.
Every day, I spend several hours feeding stray dogs in and around town. I ensure they are sterilized, vaccinated, and dewormed, and for those who are adoptable, I do my best to find loving homes. With the support of compassionate local vets and a small network of fellow rescuers, my main focus is raising funds to run free, large-scale spay and neuter campaigns for families in our region who cannot afford to sterilize their pets.
I also care for 20 to 30 street dogs at any given time, ensuring they receive food and medical care.
Thank you for visiting and for caring. Your support makes all the difference.

Spay & Neuter Campaigns

Since we began our mission, Dogs of Puerto Angel has sterilized over 6,000 dogs and cats along the coast of Oaxaca.
Each year, we aim to spay or neuter at least 1,000 animals—a number that helps us keep the local overpopulation crisis under control and prevents countless animals from being born into a life of suffering, neglect, and abuse.
Our veterinarians generously offer their services at a reduced rate of 350 pesos (approximately $18 USD) per animal, the most affordable option available to us in the region.
Just one donation can change the future for hundreds of animals.
Please consider sponsoring a spay or neuter surgery today. Your support has a direct, lifesaving impact.
For more information about our upcoming spay & neuter campaigns, please follow us on social media.
Thank you for being part of this vital volunteer work.

Dogs of Puerto Angel is a non-profit organization with 100% of funds used to sterilize and help stray dogs and cats in and around Puerto Angel, Mexico.
Dogs of Puerto Angel is based in Oaxaca, the poorest state in Mexico, where the overpopulation of stray animals has reached a crisis level. Countless dogs and cats suffer from malnutrition, disease, injury, and abuse. With no government-funded animal shelters or sterilization programs, the most common method of population control remains cruel and inhumane through poisoning.
Our mission is to prevent this immense suffering by offering free, large-scale spay and neuter campaigns in and around Puerto Angel, reaching communities that lack the resources to sterilize their animals. In addition, we run education programs in local schools and community centers to raise awareness about responsible pet care and the critical importance of sterilization.
Together, we believe we can create lasting change for the animals and the people of the Oaxaca coast..
